With Thanksgiving right around the corner, what a perfect time to think about all there is to be thankful for! In my personal life I have too many blessings to count that I am thankful for. If I tried to list them all, we would be here for a while…. so rather than do that I wanted to pick one thing, that’s not one of the usual (family, friends, etc). I am thankful for the evolution of the fitness field.
I have been in the fitness field for over 10 years now and the way I have seen it evolve and grow in that short time blows my mind. I started my journey as a physical therapy aide some 10 years ago. During my years there, I came across every kind of individual: overweight and sedentary, former professional athlete, middle aged moms, business go getters, elderly who have never exercised a day in their life, and student athletes. Most patients who fell in the 50 years and up category, either had never exercised, didn’t know how to, or had been doing it wrong for YEARS! I taught these people how to properly perform exercises so they could gain strength, rehab an injury, and increase their cardiovascular endurance so they can breathe and move better. For most of them, it opened up a whole new world. There wasn’t a day that went by that I didn’t learn something new, about exercise, about people, and about the impact that fitness can have on peoples’ lives. 10 years later and I am still learning new things EVERY DAY!
The beautiful way that fitness has grown and branched into such a variety of modalities is quite amazing. Just think of all the options there are out there to get fit besides the standard gym setting: yoga, cycling, obstacle races, karate, dance, barre, pilates, swim, etc. And let’s not forget CROSSFIT, which for me changed my life in regards to fitness. I am incredibly thankful that I have the opportunity to grow and learn every day in this field. I am thankful that there are BRILLIANT people out there (masters of health and fitness) that are paving new roads, new trains of thought, and new modalities constantly to allow for more efficient, more functional, and more sustaining types of exercise. I am thankful for the opportunity I get to share in this knowledge and the ability to help others learn as well. I am thankful that exercise is finally FUN! That no matter your personality type, budget, or interests there is some type of fitness that is perfect for EVERYONE.
Lastly, I am thankful for the home I have here at Crossfit Reviver. I am thankful for the teachers I have found in Vince and Jeremy. I am thankful for YOU! Our members, who strive for greatness every day, who are constantly working to better themselves, and who bring so much joy to this process.
Stay healthy and happy my friends,
Your Very Thankful Coach – Sammie
