Reading the Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod almost 2 years ago now has changed my morning routine dramatically. I believe how you start your day has a direct impact on the outcome of the end of your day. Hal goes over 6 different categories to do each morning: silence, affirmations, visualization, journaling, reading, and exercise. You determine the length of time you want to spend on each. It could be as little as a minute on each. I have tailored his routine into things that work for me. I wake up 60 minutes prior to the time I need to leave the house in order to accomplish my miracle morning. Since implementing this routine over the past 2 years it has significantly increased my productivity, energy, and mood.
Here is my routine:
0-5min: Prayer. I am a Christian and pray every morning for a variety of things. My wife, family, friends, members at the gym, myself, etc.
5-10min: Gratefulness. I pick 3-5 things every morning that I am grateful for. Starting your day off being grateful for people, situations, opportunities, etc. really makes an impact for me and how I interact with the things that I’m grateful for.
10-25min: Listen to music, make/eat breakfast. I use this as my silent time. I really enjoy listening to music while I think. I will typically listen to Christian music or classical music during this time.
25-45min: Plan for the day, meal prep lunch 1&2. I use this as my visualization time. Plan and prepare mentally for the tasks I have ahead of me that day. My favorite part is finding time to work on the future of the gym and my personal life.
45-55min: Read. I am really into self-help books. I get a lot of opportunities throughout the day to work with people and it never fails that someone is looking for advice. I completely underestimated how much people need/want help with the psychology part of life. It has become a huge passion of mine to learn more about why we think the way we think and do the things we do.
55-60min: Walk the dog. I don’t use this as my exercise time but it is nice to get outside and go for a walk. I use this time to go over a mental checklist of the day before I leave the house and some quality time with the puppy.
