I’m going to take a break from writing to you about technique, or effort, or mindset when entering the gym. Today, I want to chat briefly with you about enjoying the ride.
This time of year, it’s very easy for people to get caught up in the secret Santa’s, the white elephants, and the endless cookie tins. I’d like you all to take a second, read this quote that has always had a strong calming effect on me, and just embrace what we have here, on our little blueberry in space. What we have been blessed with, the bodies that move us, and the hearts and minds that guide us:
“humans are so cute, when we say
goodbye we put our arms around each
other and to show we love someone we
bring them flowers, we say hello by
holding each other’s hand, and
sometimes tiny little dewdrops form in
our eyes. for pleasure we listen to
arrangements of sounds, press our lips
together, smoke dried leaves, get drunk
off of old fruit. we’re all just little
animals, falling in love and having
breakfast beneath billions of stars.”
At the end of the day, we’re all just a bunch of monkeys, partying on a rock that’s flying through the galaxy at 1.3 million miles per hour (I googled that). So for this next week, don’t worry about the gym, or what brand of socks your grandma got you, or if your New Year’s Eve outfit is going to dazzle. Enjoy yourself, and tell your friends and family you love them; it means more to them than you know.
