When did you start at Crossfit Reviver? 10/01/2016

What is your athletic background? Played cricket in high school, participated in soccer practices during summer vacations. Walked in 2.5 feet of snow and braving “feels like 24F” gusts of wind while studying at Michigan Tech (It’s a UP thing)
What is your favorite and least favorite WOD / movement? I am inclined to give equal justice to sit ups and back squats. I love them both. Least fav would be burpees. Heck, I am still not able to figure out the breathing rhythm while doing them. I wanted to practice them and coincidentally August became the month to nail them.
What is your greatest accomplishment? Personal, professional and fitness related. Personally, I was able to take care of my body and reduce the negative effects caused due to smoking and alcohol. I became more outgoing, improving relations with near and far off members of my family. I was able to survive the weather shock of seeing ice cubes only in freezer (back in India) as compared with the snow (In Houghton, MI) and culture shock seeing people drink water with ice in winter ( I am still yet to understand the logic). Professionally, I switched jobs and got the job which I had dreamed of as my next goal in line benchmarking the dream route. I have realized that being fit does not have to be inside the gym only and it can be branched to different aspects of life.
Has CFR made you better? If yes, how so? I was able to get my life in order and arrange my priorities. Starting with the food intake, amount and quality of sleep, listening to motivating speeches/music, keeping cool all the time. These are just the tip of the iceberg. Since I have joined CFR I have tried to wake up at 4:50 am everyday and start my day. This has tremendously helped me to schedule the rest of the day and hit gym early if possible. I travelled to India last April and changed 11 flights in a span of 7 days which was a miracle for me without falling sick. All of this was result of good body conditioning practice. About the group of people I meet everyday, I cannot be more thankful for their company. The positive vibes this box gives me is no less than a addiction. Starting from day one every coach has been supportive, patient and observant. This has saved a lot of people many hospital visits. I was totally brainwashed with the negative publicity about CrossFitters before joining CFR. The simple gesture of saying hello while walking in makes this a special place for me. The constant remainder of “devil lies in the details” is an everyday experience no matter how simple the workout presents itself.
What are your hobbies? Fishing, bowling, watching good movies … I would love to fish all day long if given the option.
What are your Top 5 favorite movies? Pulp Friction, LOTR, Bourne series, Men of Honor, The Great Dictator
What is one thing we don’t know about you? Switched jobs about 3 months ago and travel to Dearborn every single day. 60 miles in total on I-75 takes its toll on me. But I am still managing my time juggling between family, gym and professional life. Also I have a earthworm nest in my house (approx 600) which i use to recycle the green waste generated from my kitchen. I am a big fan of recycling and compost preparation.
What are your goals in life? Personal, professional and fitness related. This is a very open ended question so i would like to divide them. Professionally, I want to be in such a position where I can go back to my hometown for work where money will not be compromised much. Maintaining good relations with family and friends are top priority. In terms of health, I would like to continue my present schedule of paleo intake along with regular workout. Need to build more muscle mass going forward. Also need to complete my first Murph next year.

When did you start at Crossfit Reviver? 09/26/2012
What is your athletic background? Miscellaneous sports as a kid: gymnastics, riding (horses), t-ball (I was a phenomenal pitcher!), In college: randomly decided to try out for the women’s crew team at Michigan State (GO GREEN!) and made it! Adult-life: Snowboarding, Running, Yoga, CrossFit
What is your favorite and least favorite WOD / movement? 

Everything BUT burpees and box jumps, (specifically any of the gymnastics movements) Burpees win as “least favorite” movement.

What is your greatest accomplishment? Personal, professional and fitness related.

Personal: Still in training (but, hubby and I have been laughing together for 12 years now, with 2 dogs and a house — all feats I’m very proud of!)

Professional: Recent promotion at work (it’s an incredibly hectic job that I actually enjoy a lot – mostly)

Fitness: Training/Running a marathon and some halves, Being a part of the women’s crew team at MSU (still amazes me), CrossFit (I love seeing what I can do)
Has CFR made you better? If yes, how so? Yes! I don’t fit into the cookie-cutter what a woman SHOULD look like – and that does not affect me like it used to. I am now more interested in what I can DO, and what I will accomplish next! That is rather empowering.

What are your hobbies? Being entertained by my dogs (no seriously, they are ridiculous!), snowboarding, traveling, CrossFit, Disney (Disney magic is a real thing, I didn’t believe it until I went for the first time a few years ago!)

What are your Top 5 favorite movies? Um… how does one pick only 5 movies, that’s like only having 1 favorite color! I’m a mega-nerd, so I will go with some of my favorite series (in no specific order): Star Wars (with the exception of eps 1, 2 & 3… those were meh), Star Trek, Marvel Comic Universe, Lord of the Rings, James Bond, X-Men. (see how i made 5 movies into a LOT more) I also love a good comedy, but who doesn’t?! 😀

What is one thing we don’t know about you? My husband jokes that I’m indestructible since the only broken bone I’ve ever been treated for was my elbow (which even the CT scan couldn’t conclusively diagnose). This includes when I was hit by a car while crossing the street in 2005 (two weeks before Ryan and I moved up to Michigan — Good timing has rarely been a strong-suit of mine :P).

What are your goals in life? Personal, professional and fitness related. To be happy, healthy, employed, content and to stay true to myself. Oh yeah, and to laugh my butt off on the journey! 😀

 

Athlete of the Month – July 2016

When did you start at Crossfit Reviver? 06/01/2014

What is your athletic background? Growing up I played basketball, softball and volleyball. When I got to high school, I stuck with volleyball. I was on varsity for 3 years and I played on a national travel team. I also played for two years in college.

What is your favorite and least favorite WOD / movement? To be honest, as I get better at certain movements I like them more. I used to hate burpees, they aren’t so bad now. Same with rowing; I have a new found love for rowing. My ultimate favorite right now are pull-ups, especially since I got my kips down. My least favorite is the airdyne, it will be the death of me.

What is your greatest accomplishment? Personal, professional and fitness related. Personal would be graduating college with high honors, Magna Cum Laude. I was NEVER a school person but once I found a profession that I really liked, school was easy. I also did this working full time and going to school full time. Professional would be working at a company that I love. I am young in my career but I can honestly say that I see myself working for my company for a really long time. I have been promoted once in the three years I have been there and I just want to keep doing my best and climbing that ladder. Fitness related would be playing college volleyball and also playing in the Junior Olympics back when I played on my national travel team. It was honestly the coolest experience getting to play against some of the best volleyball players in the world.

Has CFR made you better? If yes, how so? No, CFR has not made me better….Said No one EVER! Of course it has!

It has been life changing. CFR has been the only thing I have been remotely interested in since I stopped playing volleyball. It has pushed me physically and mentally. It helps that the coaches are amazing along with the other CRF members. I have gained some pretty amazing friends.

What are your hobbies? Anything to do with being outside, doesn’t matter what time of the year it is. In the summer I love being on the water, riding jet skis, laying out, bonfires and being up north with my family, visiting my niece and 3 nephews in Traverse City. I try to get up there as often as I can. I love to take them to the parks, beaches, go for walks. They definitely keep me busy. In the winter I love to ride snowmobiles.

What is one thing we don’t know about you? If I was me in another person’s body and not in the profession I am in, I would have a sleeve of tattoos. I LOVE them. Plus I don’t think I am cool enough to pull off a sleeve, but I am so envious of people who can!

What are your Top 5 favorite movies? To be honest I am not a big movie person. But the all time favorite movie is Hocus Pocus. 🙂

What are your goals in life? My personal goal would be to become the best version of myself that I can possibly be. Treat others as you want to be treated, be positive and live life to the fullest. To grow and learn as much as I can and one day get married and have a family. My professional goals are to keep climbing the corporate ladder. I would love to be a manager or even director of HR one day. Fitness goals are to keep getting stronger physically and mentally,and just keep pushing myself at the gym. To live healthier life style overall.

What is your athletic background? JV Basketball, Multi-sport intramurals

What is your favorite and least favorite WOD / movement? Favorite: Burpees / Least favorite: Snatches

What is your greatest accomplishment? Personal, professional and fitness related. 

Personal: Taking a chance to move to the greater Detroit area from Chicago in 2012 for my career. I have been able to build a great life with good friendships and a serious relationship. My girlfriend does not hesitate to remind me that before we met I was just a bachelor in Chicago hanging out with former fraternity brothers every weekend….so I am obviously much better off now, right?

Professional: Leading my sales team to the highest grossing revenue in the midwest during the past two years. Fitness related: In my first ever 8k in 2012, I beat my goal by over two minutes. In my first Murph in 2014, I beat my goal by actually finishing.

Has CFR made you better? If yes, how so? 

Absolutely- I have developed a level of core strength that I never had previously when lifting weights at the gym. It has challenged me to strengthen my lower body and build a level of endurance I did not have before. It also keeps me motivated to train when it would be easy to lose focus.

What are your hobbies? 

Huge sports fan, terrible golfer, beer league softball pitcher and karaoke extraordinaire

What is one thing we don’t know about you? 

I graduated from Ohio State and was on the student run news channel (Buckeye TV) as a sports anchor for a year.

What are your Top 5 favorite movies? 

Good Will Hunting, The Dark Knight, Stepbrothers, All the President’s Men, and Two for the Money (guilty pleasure)

What are your goals in life? 

Personal: Besides the standard adult checklist, find an organization that shares some commons beliefs as a way to donate time. Professional: Make Vice President in the next three years. Fitness: To develop regular/sustainable diet/exercise goals.

When did you start at Crossfit Reviver? 11/01/2015

What is your athletic background? Competitive runner in high school, placed 4th and 6th in Class A state finals for 400m and 2 mile relay. Other than that, not much athletic background. I stopped enjoying running sometime around mid college career. Once I left the career world, I vowed to get back in shape as I had gained 20 lbs over the years.

What is your favorite and least favorite WOD / movement? Favorite: rowing. Least favorite: burpees of course!

What is your greatest accomplishment? Personal, professional and fitness related. 

Personal and professional tie together….completing Doctor Degree in Audiology and starting my own private practice shortly after graduating. Personally, since I battle some low self esteem issues, this was something I had to accomplish literally every day-tell myself I was smart enough to succeed. Which I did. Grew one of the most successful audiology private clinics in our area. As for fitness, I guess at this point it is that I have been consistent in my workouts for almost 3 years and am so much more confident as a result.

Has CFR made you better? If yes, how so? Definitely! I have learned a tremendous amount about weight lifting and proper form. I have gained a lot of strength. When I first started at Lifetime, I could not even struggle through one push up! Today I can do sets of 10 strict before wanting to cry.

What are your hobbies? I am dog crazy. Like it is pathological. I just started volunteering at the Detroit Animal Rescue and will be a volunteer for Teacher’s Pet, a non-profit that teaches at-risk youth how to train shelter dogs. Much like the prison dog program. I have 2 boxer dogs and love to take long leisurely walks with them. I enjoy reading and horseback riding. And of course exercising.

What is one thing we don’t know about you? I was able to retire at the ripe age of 41.

What are your Top 5 favorite movies? Hmmmmm….Shawshank Redemption. I know there are plenty more that I loved but my memory sucks and is failing me now…

What are your goals in life? Personal: to raise a healthy daughter-healthy emotionally, spiritually and physically. Professional: to not have to work for money again  Fitness: keep my health a priority and keep gaining in confidence and strength.

When did you start at Crossfit Reviver? 10/31/2015

What is your athletic background? I have dabbled in many things; softball, gymnastics, martial arts, boxing, dance, powder-puff football – to name a few. Nothing that lasted very long, or became very serious.

What is your favorite and least favorite WOD / movement? My favorite, I would say is the Clean & Split Jerk. Least favorite, Airdyne with a fiery passion, and presses. – Just something about them.

What is your greatest accomplishment? Personal, professional and fitness related. Personal – Marrying the love of my life, and watching my daughter grow up to be such an amazing, caring individual who already is much braver than I was at her age. Professional – Having the opportunity to rise up in my job, and finding out my skills, and talent were a blessing for the position before I even knew they were! Fitness – Having 1 Open, and 1 Murph under my belt! Not to mention actually being excited to see what else is to come.

Has CFR made you better? If yes, how so? This is silly, OF COURSE! Obviously I am stronger, fitter, and all your usual occurrences when you start a regular work out regimen. However, I also have more confidence, and I am more aware of what my body can handle, and can not handle. Not to mention the encouragement from not only the wonderful coaches, but also the follow members!

What are your hobbies? Drawing, playing music, reading, video games. I am honestly a giant nerd.

What are your Top 5 favorite movies? The Princess Bride. LOTR, Harry Potter, Batman – Told you, Nerd.

What is one thing we don’t know about you? I used to sing and play a lot of music. I have actually performed at Meadow Brook.

What are your goals in life? Personal – To worry less, and live in the moment more often. We get so caught up in the daily grind that a lot of us forget to just live. Professional – To keep learning, and moving forward. To make a difference. Fitness – To keep improving where ever I can!

When did you start at Crossfit Reviver? 12/00/2014

What is your athletic background? Just celebrated I played football in high school. Was on the track team (I lead by example of what not to do).

What is your favorite and least favorite WOD / movement? I love the dead lift. Don’t mind the bike or rower. I used to hate burpee’s but they are growing on me. I am not a fan of inch worms. Running kills me but I want to overcome that weakness.

What is your greatest accomplishment? Personal, professional and fitness related. Personal is easy, earning my wife’s love and respect. I am also raising three amazing, talented and ambitious kids.I definitely am an over achiever in my personal life. Professionally I am proud that my brother and I have kept our business alive while the recent real estate bubble burst, while a lot of our competition closed their doors. Fitness wise, I guess I’m proud of the fact that I’m still moving and now getting better. Thanks Vince and Jeremy! Oh yea, a long time ago I won a high school football state championship and before that I came in third in a real AMA sanction Motocross race. First and only time ever. That was pretty cool.

Has CFR made you better? If yes, how so? Absolutely yes! I’ve joined every gym and tried every diet imaginable. CFR IS THE ONLY ONE THAT STICKS. It’s like oxygen to me. I have to go and get irritable when I miss.

What are your hobbies? I am currently restoring a vintage dirt bike. The same model I raced. Yep, I’m old. My other hobby is coming to CFR. I love this place and every person in it. It is my sanctuary. When I walk through the door all the stress disappears. Thank you Vince and Jeremy for creating it!

What are your Top 5 favorite movies? I don’t really have favorite movies. I love movies in general but I’m pretty easily entertained.

What is one thing we don’t know about you? I am pretty much an open book. I guess that I have a biology degree I’m not using. If anyone wants it it’s yours. The student loans are all paid off!

What are your goals in life? My goals – personal, would be to get in a position to be able to retire someday and just relax and enjoy life with my wife and family. Professionally, to get my business to a point where it runs on cruise control, and fully recover from the previously mention burst of the real estate bubble. Fitness wise, I would like to reach my weight loss goals and increase my aerobic fitness level. It would be cool to be able to run a mile.

What is your athletic background? Played soccer for about 14 years and just recently became a professional golfer breaking the 100’s 🙂

What is your favorite and least favorite WOD / movement? I feel like this could be a pretty extensive list but I’ll break it down and go with Cleans for my favorite movement and airdyne for my least favorite. That assault bike is not a friend of these chicken legs!

What is your greatest accomplishment? Personal, professional and fitness related. Personal: Giving birth to 2 beautiful and healthy little babies. Labor and delivery is no joke! Professional: I’ll get there one day! Fitness: Having 2 MURPH’s under my belt. And of course, joining CFR because I wouldn’t have been able to do it had I not.

Has CFR made you better? If yes, how so? Absolutely! CFR has made me mentally and physically stronger, I have pushed myself to heights I never imagined and I genuinely enjoy working out now!

What are your hobbies? CROSSFIT! (Dave and Chuck the Freak voice)

What are your Top 5 favorite movies? Anything that will make me laugh, but to name a few Stepbrothers, Old School, Ted, Dumb and Dumber, Bridesmaids, and for some reason I’ve always been a fan of Mrs. Doubtfire.
What is one thing we don’t know about you? I spontaneously moved to Las Vegas when I was 18 and also lived in florida as well.

What are your goals in life? Personal, professional and fitness related. My personal goals are to be the best mom, and wife (some day) I can possibly be. I want to raise my kids to stay humble, be grateful, have fun, and cherish each day. As far as professional goals, to simply take the time to figure it out. I’ve never had a dream job so I’ve never known what to pursue. Maybe one day! Lastly, my fitness goals are simply to never give up. Staying active and fit to keep up with my kids is crucial. Also completing MURPH prescribed would be a dream.

Athletic background? An ensemble of childhood stereotypes: T-Ball, Soccer, Karate – followed by a short run at
racquetball in my college years, which more or less equated to running into walls at a moderately past face.

Favorite and least favorite WOD / movement? Love me some backsquats. Inch worms can burn in hell, along with that modified Bear Crawl thing, aka Bear Poop/Table Top of Torture.
Greatest accomplishment? Personal, professional and fitness related? Personal: My wife and son.
Professional: Honing my skill set so I can go to work every day and not hate be miserable doing what I am doing.
Fitness: Making the decision to try CrossFit.

Has CFR made you better? If so, how? CFR has provided a community and routine that doesn’t have me dreading a workout. It’s exciting to see progress and feel better every day over the last. Not only are we talking about exercise, but fueling your body for performance and tackling the demons that hinder progress. There is a route to every goal, sometimes the path isn’t as clear to you as it can be to others. CFR helped me find that path and constantly push me in the right direction when I start to wander.

What are your hobbies? Visiting and exploring National Parks/United States.

Top 5 favorite movies? Fight Club, LOTR & The Hobbit Saga.

What is one thing we don’t know about you? I have an impressive collection of lapel pins from the places I have visited. I am also a living version of Wikipedia and often spend many restless hours researching irrelevant topics that serve no purpose what-so-ever.

What are your goals in life? Personal, professional and fitness related? Personal: Live my life to the fullest and not waste the short time we have on this planet – Experience as much that I can. Professional: The perfect balance of success and happiness.Fitness: To keep stripping off the pounds until I no longer can consider physical ability a deterrent of my personal goals…and a muscle up would be pretty sweet too.
