Athlete of the Month, August 2012

Name: Apey, Apeydella, or just April

Age: 27

Occupation: Registered Nurse

Resident of: Clawson, MI aka the greatest city ever!!

Member of CFR since: Day 1! I also hold the title for the first Burpee performed at CFR!

Athletic background? I have absolutely no athletic background!

Favorite and least favorite WOD/movement? Favorite WOD would have to be Cindy not because of the WOD itself or the movements involved, but because it showed me, through the Easy Money Challenge, that with a little hard work and determination change is possible!  My score went from 10 rounds + 5 reps, and I thought I was going to die after, to 14 rounds + 11 reps, and feeling like I could conquer the world after!

My least favorite CrossFit movement has to be push ups!  Not to long ago my answer to this question would have been Burpees, but thanks to Nikki Mac’s Burpee tutorial I hate them less!

Greatest accomplishment? My greatest non-CrossFit achievement would be passing my NCLEX to get my nursing license.  My greatest CrossFit achievement would be completing Murph!  I remember seeing a shirt, before I joined CrossFit, that had the Murph movements listed on it, and I thought that it was done as a team of at least three people, and anyone who tried it by themselves was crazy!  Then Murph Day came, and all that went out the window!  I finished in 68 minutes and look forward to next year when we do it again and I can CRUSH that time!!!

Has CFR made you better? If so, how? CFR has absolutely made me better!  I feel the healthiest, strongest, and happiest I’ve ever felt in my whole life!

I used to laugh at my brother when he told me he was opening this gym and I was going to want to work out everyday!  Now I get it!  I love CFR!  I love working out, I love checking the website and seeing what the WOD is, and mentally preparing for whatever it is!  And I love the feeling of being laid out on the gym floor, knowing I gave it 100%!

I cannot thank Vince and Jeremy enough for opening this gym and showing me what a strong, healthy individual I could be!

What are your hobbies? I like doing 1/2 marathons with my dad, and I hope to one day run a full marathon!  I also love Saturday WODs!  You cannot officially start your Saturday until you’ve left it all on that gym floor!  I also love reading and knitting (don’t judge me!).

Top 5 favorite movies? The Fast and The Furious, Drop Dead Fred, The Notebook, Scarface and Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

What is one thing we don’t know about you? I’m so excited about being named Athlete of the Month, that the next time I apply for a job, I’m listing it on my resume, that’s how much it means to me to be Athlete of the Month!  Also, I have one of THE MOST EPIC scary movie screams ever !!!

What are your goals in life?  And/or at CFR? My goal in life and at CFR is to constantly strive for better!  Better attitude, better diet, better times, better Snatch, better Clean & Jerk, etc!  To NEVER get comfortable!  I would also like to be able to do a push up and/or a pull up!
