Name, age, occupation, city? Molly Husman, 31, Veterinarian, Rochester Hills
Start date at CrossFit Reviver? March 2013. I started Crossfit at another box in 2012 but that was short-lived. I really fell in love with Crossfit at ReviveR after my youngest was born in 2013. Now, I’m hooked!
Athletic background? I was always an athlete. I played soccer, volleyball, water polo and swam in high school. I went on to swim at Michigan State but 2 shoulder surgeries later, I hung up my goggles and ended up on study abroad in Ireland. I learned to play Rugby there and gave that a shot for 2 more years back at MSU until Vet School ended all organized sports for me.
Favorite and least favorite WOD / movement? My favorite movements are the back squat and deadlift. I love to pick heavy things up and put them down. No finesse, all brute strength. I would have to say my least favorite “movement” is running. Add in some burpees and you have concocted my least favorite WOD, ever.
Greatest accomplishment? Personal, professional and fitness related? Personally, my greatest accomplishment is conning my husband, Brian, into marrying me. I don’t know why in the world he decided he wanted to be stuck with me forever, but he is now and I couldn’t be more grateful. I give him a hard time but he is an amazing man who makes me a better person everyday that I am blessed enough to have him by my side. Professionally, I always grew up wanting to be a Veterinarian. So, even though I try to accomplish and learn new things all the time, I was most proud of the day I actually walked into my first job as a Veterinarian. Fitness related, I’m proud of finishing Murph every year I have been at ReviveR and improving a little each time. I hate running and Murph is brutal. I can’t wait until the day I can do it all prescribed (I’m not sure I will ever wear the 20# vest…).
Has CFR made you better? If so, how? I always loved sports but since I stopped playing organized sports, working out stopped being fun. It was something I forced myself to do because I thought I was supposed to do it. Honestly, it was usually focused around losing weight. This is going to sound cheesy, but, since I joined ReviveR, it’s been more about what I gain and not what I needed to loose. I gained muscle, I gained a better idea about eating and living healthy and I gained a passion for working out again. I am extremely grateful to Vince and Jeremy for creating a place where I have found life-long friends and a great sense of community. Low and behold, when I stopped focusing on losing weight, I also gained the ability to fit into an old pair of pants that I haven’t been able to wear in years…
What are your hobbies? I love sports. I’m a huge football fan, both college and NFL. I will watch and support anything Michigan State. I also enjoy reading and country music as well as spending time outdoors with my husband and our two little girls, Lilly and Elizabeth.
Top 5 favorite movies? Labyrinth (can’t beat David Bowie all done up in sparkles), To Wong Foo (maybe there’s a “men dressed like women” theme here…) and old horror movies.
What is one thing we don’t know about you? I can drink a beer off my head without using my hands and my mother taught me how!
What are your goals in life? Personal, professional and fitness related? My personal goal is to be the best wife and mother I can be, to be a great friend and someone who kind, funny and generous. I want to live the kind of life that, when my time comes, my funeral is full of people celebrating a friend who made them smile and helped them be the best version of themselves (and it should be somewhere with booze). Professionally, I want to continue to push myself to learn new things everyday and possibly own my own clinic one day. Fitness related, I would like to complete a Half-Ironman. Honestly, though, I would settle for a strict pull-up!
